It took me several years to find my balance with food, but once I did my world completely changed! I no longer restrict or punished myself with food and I'm happy to say I no longer count my calories!! Yeah! So many hours of my life saved!!! I found my balance by becoming pH Balanced! What does that mean? That means I eat foods that have an alkaline effect on my body. Our bodies prefer to be slightly more alkaline than acidic on the pH scale. Some foods are more alkaline and some are more acidic and everything we eat has an effect on our pH levels. It sounds complicated but it really isn't. Let me break it down a little further.
There are certain foods that are more acidic and others that are more alkaline. Foods that are acidic are usually those that contain refined sugars, trans fats, saturated fats, preservatives, chemicals, etc…i.e. The Standard American Diet. I was on this diet once and I did feel more acidic! I was unhappy, sluggish, definitely overweight, and beyond body conscious. On the other hand, alkaline foods are those that contain natural minerals and nutrients that our bodies need for fuel and energy. These types of foods are leafy greens, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, and low glycemic fruits. These foods are rich in nutrients and oxygen which our bodies love to gobble up! I eat a plant based, vegetarian diet which I'm happy to say has further benefits than just energy and weight loss! My hair is shinier, my skin is clear and bright, I sleep like a baby, and…drum roll please…. the cellulite has packed it's bags and is leaving my saddles! But in all seriousness my health is in tip top shape and I know I am protecting my body from disease.
On a daily basis I'm eating about 75-80% alkaline and 20-25% acidic. I'm drinking green juices and filling up on fresh produce. I'm loading my plates 75-80% with vegetables and leafy greens and the rest I'm adding grains, or a plant based protein dish. For those of you who are not vegetarian you could put a piece of fish or other protein in this portion.
